Tracking events

Once the pixel tag is live, you can track additional conversion events using GTM's built-in triggers and variables. The steps below track a sign-up button click as an example.

Enable click variables

  1. In GTM, go to Variables
  2. Click Configure in the Built-In Variables section
  3. Enable all of the Click variables (Click Element, Click Classes, Click ID, etc.)
2

Create a trigger

  1. Go to Triggers and click New
  2. Choose Click - All Elements as the trigger type
  3. Select Some Clicks
  4. Add conditions to identify your button:
    • Click ID equals signup-button (if using ID)
    • Click Classes contains signup-btn (if using class)
    • Click Text equals "Sign Up" (if using button text)
  5. Name your trigger "Sign Up Button Click"
3

Create an event tag

  1. Create a new tag and choose Custom HTML as the tag type

  2. Add the following code, replacing the event name and parameters with your own (see the Events documentation for all event types and parameters):

    <script>
      kad("track", "SignUp", { currency: "USD", value: 50.0 });
    </script>

  3. Set the trigger to your newly created trigger

  4. Save and publish
